Suspected drunk driver crashes car with family inside | News

SOLON, OH (WOIO)- A 42-year-old man is accused of causing a drunk driving crash with his family in the car.
The accident happened shortly after 10 p.m. on August 3 near Aurora Road and Liberty Road in Solon.
Police say Joseph Shaner was drunk when he lost control of his car while speeding and smashed into a tree.
After the crash, Shaner's wife and young kids tried to flee through a yard, but were stopped by police.
While officers were talking with Shaner, they noticed a strong odor of alcoholic beverages coming from him. When asked if he had anything to drink, he stated that he had a couple beers earlier.
Shaner submitted to a breathalyzer test and registered a .219 BAC. He was charged with OVI, Prohibited BAC, Reasonable Control and Child Endangering.
