NFW Happy Tail: Zorba & Boris

NFW Happy Tail: Zorba & Boris

NFW Happy Tails:  During the week of May 23, 2011, Zorba (previously Zurba) was featured as the Cleveland Neighborhood Friend of the Week.  Now Zorba has made a new friend: her forever guardian, Boris.

When Zorba was first featured on the Neighborhood Friend of the Week, she received very little attention.  And on June 14th, we learned that Zorba was at threat to be put down.  Not wanting to lose one of our Friends, we pushed very hard to find Zorba at least a foster – an article even appeared on 19 Action News’ main webpage.

Luckily, we were contacted by Boris, who was willing to take a chance on Zorba.  With the help of the Animal Rescue Center in Eastlake, the NFW assisted in coordinating Zorba’s rescue out of the pound.  Zorba turned out to be a wonderful animal companion, and Boris adopted Zorba permanently into his home.  Boris truly made a difference by saving Zorba’s life.  Thank you, Boris!  But, as Boris says, Zorba has improved his life as well.

According to Boris, Zorba has been an incredible aid in bonding with people.  For one, Zorba helped Boris bond with his roommate.  He also attributes Zorba to his family’s recently-improved closeness and civility.

Zorba has made huge strides herself.  She was never able to allow her true, wonderful personality to come out in the pound.  It would take a lot for her to even come out from under the dining room table after joining Boris in his home.  Now, Zorba is much more outgoing.  She will make the first move to say hi to another dog and other people.  She is incredibly excitable as well.  Whenever there is a hint she may be going for a walk or to the dog park, her tail wags so hard her entire body shakes.

Personalized Holiday Video Greetings to thank troops and veterans for their service

The Ohio Center for Broadcasting today announced it will help families, friends and supporters of Military service members make our troops and veterans happy this Holiday season by creating free Digital Care Packages that can be shared with loved-ones through email and online social networks, no matter where they are.

“Our students and staff are staunch supporters of our troops, and we are humbled to be able to give back and donate our resources to our service members in such a meaningful way,” said Christopher O’Connell, Campus Director of the Ohio Center for Broadcasting Cleveland Campus.  “We encourage everyone to come out and record a video.  It will only take a short time to record, but it can make a world of difference in lifting peoples’ spirits.”

All six campuses of the Ohio and Illinois Centers for Broadcasting across the country are inviting people to participate in sharing their gratitude by recording a personalized video greeting to service members stationed away from home this season.  Those interested can call the campus nearest them to set up a time to come into the studios.  The school will provide a holiday background and props, produce the message and distribute the video to share in digital form.
